Nick, If Daniel Jumped Off A Bridge, Would You Do The Same?

According to Dan Graziano at the Star Ledger, the Mets have another slight problem on their hands:

Mets outfielder Nick Evans had an MRI on Monday at the Hospital for Special Surgery and was diagnosed with what the team described as a "mild quadriceps strain of the right knee"(sic). The Mets said Evans suffered the injury while playing winter ball in Puerto Rico (he last played on Nov. 19) and would undergo three-to-four weeks of therapy at home in Phoenix in preparation for spring training.

While the Mets Parade at LLR isn't too concerned about these injuries affecting the upcoming '09 season, we couldn't help but chuckle just a little bit. Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans have quickly emerged as the Mets new butt buddies. (We hope they stay from the kinds of activities that other Mets' BBs have enjoyed... a la D Dubs and Jose Reyes.)

Daniel and Nick might need a trial separation until they learn they don't have to have the same injuries to be besties. Be a leader, not a follower, Nicky.

Not Again...D Murph Down

Matthew Cerrone of MetsBlog.com has a post up about how Daniel Murphy has suffered a right knee sprain and will be in New York this week for a precautionary MRI. My thoughts go out to D-Murph and hope to see him at CitiField on Opening Day! (I don't have tickets yet, but I will be there.)

Murphy Ineligible For 09 Rookie of the Year

According to Marty Noble of MLB.com, Daniel Murphy has used up his 'rookie' status for the award. According to the rules, if a player has 130+ at bats in a single season he can not be considered for the award the next year. Since Murphy pinch hit in the final game of the season giving him 130 ABs on the year, he is ineligible for the award next year. Had he walked during that at bat, he would still be eligible.

AFL: Daniel Murphy Update

Not much is going on today, so I thought I'd update everyone on Daniel Murphy's play in the Arizona Fall League. Murphy played in 15 games this fall, and the Sags have just 6 games left on their schedule, so the sample size is small, but in just 15 games Murphy has:

.397 Batting Average (he's getting a hit in almost 1/2 of his at bats)
He has 8 doubles and 2 home runs in 25 hits (40% of his hits are for extra bases)
In 63 at-bats he has drawn 13 walks and only stuck out 6 times

Eddie Kunz notes in his AFL blog that Murphy's defense at 2B is improving.

AFL: Daniel Murphy Injured?

Just got done speaking with stars, who told me that while in Peoria this weekend, she noticed that Daniel Murphy was not taking batting practice. When she finally saw him walking around he had his forearm in some sort of wrap. Stars was unable to tell if the wrap was merely that or some sort of cast, but she did mention that "it looked way too thick to be just wrapping."

The [unofficial] word out of Peoria is that D-Murph was playing in a "Rising Stars" Game on Friday and was in some sort of collision. After the collision, he was allegedly taken to a nearby hospital. Of course, the Peoria Saguaros were not releasing any information this weekend. Murphy did not play on Saturday, but there was no explanation given out.

My feeling is that it could be ice with a wrapping around it (let's hope so). Stars has a picture of Murphy with this mysterious wrap on his arm and is hoping to be able to get to a computer soon and post it. Stay tuned...

Update 2:57 pm - LLR has learned from an unconfirmed source that "He was injured trying to steal 2b in the very 1st inning. No breaks so it is nothing to worry about as he is still playing LF in upcoming winter ball."

AFL: D-Murph at Second

Yes, this is the baseball that matters to us Mets fans...Especially stars, as a matter of fact I think she's driving to Peoria, AZ right now. You may be wondering why, and I'll show you:
Murphy is batting .429 (10 for 25) with 2 2B, 1 HR and 7 RBI, while not committing an error in seven games played at second base. LOOK OUT CASTILLO!!
