Help Wanted:: NFL
It seems like just yesterday when every team in the NFL had a coach (or at least an interm-49ers & Raiders) and yet today there are four head coaching vacancies. I am also certain that there will be more firings in the weeks to come.
While his record (23-25) during his three years in New York may not show it, Eric Mangini, apparently was not the man for the job. After finishing second in his division his first year as head coach, Mangini has led his team to two consecutive third place finishes.
Owners will usually forgive a bad first season (unless they are Al Davis) but if you're getting progressively worse, you're going to end up fired.
This is also the reason why both Romeo Crennel and Rod Marinelli were fired. Crennel led the Browns to their best season in years just last season, but finishing this year 4-12 and with the team in turmoil it was time for a new face in Cleveland. And while Marinelli could push some of the blame off on to former Lions GM Matt Millen, if you can't win a game, I'm sorry but you're not going to be coaching next year.
This leads me to suggest who else I think will be looking for new coaches next year:
Kansas City Chiefs
Like I said above, you can not keep a coach who gets progessively worse. The Chiefs have gone under Herm Edwards from 9-7 his first season to just 2-13 this year.
Cincinatti Bengals
I believe that the Bengals may give Marvin Lewis another chance becasue of Carson Palmer missing most of this year. He has not done anything in recent years to change the attitude of the team. They need some fresh blood in there.
St. Louis Rams
Not only does their head coach need to go, but Marc Bulger needs to get lost. The Rams have not been as successful under him as they have hoped, and well it's time to move on.

CBSsports is reporting that a US Circuit Court Judge has blocked the NFL from suspending Kevin Williams and Pat Williams of the Vikings and Charles Grant, Deuce McAllister and Will Smith of the Saints this Sunday. The judge needs more time to go through all the evidence, and in the meantime, the boys can play.
Vikings DTs cleared to play: A federal judge on Friday blocked the NFL from suspending five players for violating the league's anti-doping policy. U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson said he needed more time to consider the case after hearing several hours of arguments from the league and the NFL Players Association. Kevin Williams and Pat Williams of the Vikings and Charles Grant, Deuce McAllister and Will Smith of the Saints were suspended this week for four games each for testing positive for a banned diuretic in the dietary supplement StarCaps. The union argued the NFL didn't properly inform players about the substance. The NFL's attorneys argued that that claim, and others, had been considered and rejected in a process set out by the league's collective bargaining agreement.
Hmmmmm. Sounds a little strange to me, but whatever. I do have the Vikings D starting on my fantasy roster this week :D

NFL Players with Guns
Here's a different perspective on the issue. I've got so many mixed feelings about all of this, its hard to keep things straight or even develop a real opinion! To that end, I want to bring you all as much information as possible so you decided how you feel about it all.
We all remember the Sean Taylor tragedy from almost exactly a year ago, and the outpouring of emotion around the NFL. It has been said that Sean Taylor would be alive if he had a gun that day. It has also been said that Sean Taylor would be alive if NO ONE had a gun that day.
I visited McFaddens on 42nd Street and 2nd Avenue last Sunday, and I had a great conversation with Alex, a Bill's fan. She echoed the sentiment that life as a superstar athlete isn't always as glamorous as it looks on television. These guys deal are often seen as targets. Some of them come from rocky backgrounds in violent places. Like it or not, many NFL players do feel the need to carry weapons. Why they don't feel the need to legally register these weapons is beyond me.

I forgot to put this up Tuesday, but I thought that it wouldn't be too late today, but for all of you who didn't notice. Brady Quinn picked up his first win as starting QB of the Browns after they bench Derek Anderson 2 weeks ago...Congrats. I'm sure you're one of boogie's bfs.

NBA - Is he still "The Answer"?
I figured we should give some love to the NBA teams, since mostly what goes on here is baseball and football. I was looking ahead to this weekend and I'm looking forward to watching the Sunday night game (during the commercials of the football game). The Pistons are on the road visiting the Suns, and the newly acquired Allen Iverson will be in the building:
NHL - The Beasts of The East
Saturday night at 7, the NY Rangers (and boogie's bf) take on the scorching hot Boston Bruins. In the middle of writing this I just realized this is another New York - Boston rivalry that could brew up this season. The Bruins have won 8 of their last 10 games and are sitting at the top of their division. The Rangers, who seem to be the favorites in any game they play, will have their work cut out for them this weekend.
NCAA Football
Like every Saturday in college football, tomorrow promises to be an exciting day. As a football fan you've got to love SEC games. Georgia (10) is going into Auburn to take on the Tigers in what promises to be a slug fest. Look for Georgia' Matt Stafford to throw up some deep balls for his 2 impressive 6 foot plus receivers to go and get. (12:30 game)
Tim TebowSpeaking of the SEC, the ol' ball coach (Steve Spurrier) will be leading the Gamecocks(25) down to Gainesville , FL to take on his former team the Gators(4). Spurrier, who coached the Gators to a national championship in '97, is looking to kill the BCS title hopes of his former team. Tim Tebow, last year's Heisman Trophy winner (first ever to do it as a Sophomore), will attempt to try to pick apart the #3 defense in the land. This one looks to be an interesting one. (3:30 on CBS)
NFL - Romo Is Back
Tony Romo gets his first chance to play with WR Roy Williams, since Williams was acquired (via trade with Detroit) after Romo broke his pinkie. The Cowboys look to gain some ground on their division rivals who will be missing star RB Clinton Portis. (Anyone else think it's funny that Washington has a guy named Clinton as it's star? I mean we've only got to wait 60-something more days until January 20th, but personally I wouldn't have minded more Bill these past 8 years and to make up for it...

He's Back!
Tom Brady is back in New England. Maybe not playing football right now, but he's back at Gillette Stadium rehabbing his knee after he had season ending knee surgery.
Brady had two operations on his knee, one to repair a torn ACL and one to clear out an infection in the knee after the initial surgery.

Professional Athletes Make Me Sick
I will not say that all professional athletes make me sick, but there are a whole group of them who are just glorified babies. They have been spoon fed through high school and college, and expect that everything be handed to them. And when they don't get their way they bitch and moan (look at pretty much any NFL wide receiver).
This is a new low for professional athletes though. I know you have to look out for yourself and your family, but many are 'scared' that the Bush tax cuts will be going away once Barack is in office. For example, Jared Allen of the Vikings says:
"It's a sad day for me. I'm a McCain supporter. There is nothing I can do about it now. Our paychecks will be cut in half."
Jared, I hope you know that people can search what your contract is, and I for one do not feel bad for you. According to Rotoworld, Allen signed a 6 year contract worth $73.26 million, with $31 million GUARANTEED. Even if it was true that he'd be losing 1/2 of his paycheck, which it's not, that would still be $36.63 Million. Jared, I'm sorry that my heart isn't bleeding for you...Maybe if you're THAT concerned about your money, you should get a second job during the offseason, or better yet, retire from the NFL and join the rest of us in the lower tax bracket.
However, not all athletes are douchebags:

Brady Quinn Gets The Nod
Being as Action and I are on a charity football team called the 'Browns', I have taken a liking to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns announced that Brady Quinn will be their starting QB this weekend. Quinn has been a fan favorite since being drafted out of Notre Dame in the 2007 NFL Draft, but has been the back-up.
At the NFL Combine, Quinn bench pressed 225 lbs. 24 times, that's that average that the offensive linemen benched. Being a man, comfortable with my sexuality, I have no qualms with saying the Browns starting QB this weekend is jacked. Enjoy ladies...

Heads Up!
Heads up is going to become my weekly Friday post. I will be giving you a quick look at what games to watch for in the upcoming weekend.
There are a few games this weekend that really intrigue me. First, you've got the battle for bragging rights in Michigan where the Wolverines (2-5) take on the Spartans (6-2). The Wolverines haven't had the success they were hoping for under Rich Rodriguez's short tenure, but maybe they'll start to turn it around against their in-state rivals?
The second game that caught my eye was UCLA (3-4) v. CAL (4-2). Probably two of the teams I usually find myself routing for (especially when they play USC) are taking the field this weekend in another in-state battle. Look for former USC Offensive Coordinator's, Norm Chow, Offense to have some big plays.
Obviously on everyone's radar will be the #1 Texas v. #6 Oklahoma St. game. Texas manhandled Missouri last week and look to cruise into Oklahoma St. to do the same. Don't be surprised if Oklahoma St. doesn't go down as easy though...
Saturday night, The Ohio State (9) takes on Penn State (3) in the battle of the 2 states no one cares to drive through when going cross county. Just because of their uniforms and they have Joe Pa, I'm looking for Penn State to pull this one out...
The NFL Scheduling Committee planned a game this week that would've featured 2 of the league's best running backs (LT & Bush). However, Bush is now injured and most of the other NFL games this week lack any type of interest. Thanks Reggie. However, the AFC East matchup between the Bills & Dolphins should be rather interesting, and the Titans play the Colts on MNF in an attempt to remain the only unbeaten team.
MLB - 3-1?
Look for the Rays to march into Philly and take 2 games this weekend (Sat & Sun). F U Rollins.

Kurt Warner Considers Retirement - Time For Party Boy To Step Up
After the injury to his fellow teammate Anquan Boldin, Kurt Warner has stated that this off-season he will take a long hard look at retiring. Does this mean that 'Party Boy' Matt Leinart will actually have to learn the playbook and how to run an NFL Offense instead of party with buddy Nick Lachey?
I guess we'll find out...

NFL Week 2 Wrap-up: Boogie is Victorious!

I came in first place this week with an 11-4 record. You WISH you were this good. It's OK. Stars, Action, and Ill Orange all wish the same. You're in good company.
My big brother from another mother, Ben "Ill Orange" Miller, came in second with his picks this week, going 10-5. We would have tied if Ben had listened to reason and picked against his beloved Bears. Unfortch, he just couldn't bring himself to do it - so he'd better get used to second place :x
After going 11-5 in Week 1, Ms. Stars took a mighty tumble with a 7-8 record in Week 2. There's a whole lot of season left and Stars is a fierce competitor, so I'm still watching my back. The Stars/Action sibling duo had rough week. Action went 8-7 and actually picked Jacksonville over Buffalo. I have no idea what he was thinking, either. Has he SEEN Trent Edwards in action? GO BILLS!!
