You all didn't think I was going to pass up this opportunity, did you?
The great thing about this time of year is while I suffer baseball withdrawal, I can keep my mind occupied with the announcing of all these awards and now (beginning today) with trade speculation and drama. The fun really never stops for an MLB fan.
So with the Silver Slugger awards announced yesterday, it sure seems like a few players had a silver and gold year. In addition to their Gold Gloves, 4 players took home a Silver Slugger award - Dustin Pedroia, Grady Sizemore, and my two loves, David Wright and Joe Mauer. It was the second award for both Mauer and Wright. We sure know how to pick them at the LLR!
Other players who are polishing their silver today include Minnesota's Justin Morneau (making this the 2nd pair of Silver Sluggers for the Twins' duo - the only duo from that team to ever achieve this honor), Matt Holliday, Ryan Braun, A-Rod and Derek Jeter. You can check out the full list of winners here.
But in the meantime, here is my little photo tribute to this year's winners.

And you all know that I would never forget...

It's About To Be A Wrap

Final regular season game of 2008 goes down tonight.. White Sox vs. Twins. Winner take all. But however the chips may fall, my man would have to go 0-7 tonight to lose the batting title. So let's all cross our fingers that nothing crazy happens and let's start the Mauer celebration a little early.
We love you, Joe!
(Does anyone mind if I hit that?)

An Excuse To Put Up A Sexy Picture of Joe Mauer

And a damn good excuse at that. As the season comes to its final days, not only are we watching the pennant races, but we are watching to see who will take home the various crowns for stats.
Despite the fact that I am an NL girl, the stat races over there aren't nearly as interesting as the AL stats. Seems like those winners were decided back in July and the pecking order hasn't changed much. The AL, however, is an entirely different story.
So we sit and watch as the boys of the American League duke it out and positions are constantly rotating. And sometimes they look just like Mama Stars wants them to look. Like this morning. Who's leading the AL batting title race with a stunning average of .327? The future Mr. Stars!
Let's all take a minute to say thank you for the human wonder that is Joe Mauer, the only catcher to ever take home the title, and the owner of the sexiest sideburns I have ever seen. LLR's thoughts are with you. Take it to the house, Joey!
